    Oil Pressure?

Less than 500 miles ago, I replaced my oil pressure sending unit. And yesterday after getting off the expressway when the car got down to idle speed, the oil pressure light came back on, but dimly and would go out when revved up. So my question is if the pump was bad would it have these same characteristics? Can the pump be weakening or would just be dead or working, no in between? If pressure was actually low, wouldnt the engine get noisier?

    thanks

One can't tell much from an oil pressure switch. The switch could be off a bit, the oil could be a bit on the thin side for the ambient conditions, the filter could be partially plugged, or the engine could be worn. The best approach would be to temporarily hook up a gauge and see what oil pressure the engine produces.

I would recommend a mechanical gauge over an electric one. Especially if you're just going to use it for test purposes. An electric gauge can be easier to install as a permanent though, but you've gotta find power then.

My oil light stayed on twice as long in warm weather with 10w40 as it does now.

                20w50 ftw.

Why are you running so heavy of an oil? They recommend 10w30 don't they?
