Car on lift and running in neutral...rear wheels turn?

Can someone explain this to me? I had my car on the lift the other day, running in neutral, and the rear wheels were turning...slowly...but turning. Is my flywheel or clutch fubar?

<edit> Actually had the wheels/tires off, but still...

Are you 100% sure you had it in neutral? There is no reason for the tires to spin in neutral. You may be looking at a new tranny soon. The syncros may be taking a shit or possibly the linkage.

          its called friction
with the transmission out you can spin the input shaft and the output shaft will spin even in neutral, unless there is something pushing back to stop it

lol, I drove an old chevy truck in 0-degree weather with a stick and it was so messed up it actually had the automatic-tranny creep going. I think the tranny blew a few months later.

its normal. Really cold gearbox oil is thick, and the resultant friction on it will actually cause the output shaft to spin slightly. When the car or the box warms up, it wont spin. You can put your hand on the wheel and make it stop spinning if you like :)
