What Exhausts Are Compatible

I have an 87 325es and I'm brand new to BMWs, and I need to know what other exhausts will fit.. Will an e36 muffler work? Will an e36 M3 muffler work?

yes, but with custom work. Your car has single exhaust all the way back. You could pick up some headers or an M20b25 manifold and run duals all the way back at the expense of torque but with more factory-ish options. Alteratively, you could just use a universal magnaflow or something in the stock diameter piping.
