Running engine below normal temp - bad?

I just went on a 600 mile trip over the weekend, most of it in the blue area of the coolant temp gauge. I believe it is the thermostat that has failed, as the car stayed cold for the whole trip. Luke warm air coming from the vents, and ALL coolant hoses only luke warm to the touch, even immediately after 3 hours of driving @ 70mph. Ambient temps were in the mid 20's. I know that my MPG was down by about 6 and I was a little chilly, but are there any other negative effects for running the engine so cool for so long? Most of the trip was at highway speed between 3-4k RPM.

Are my diagnostic skills up to par? Is there anything else that would cause the car not to come up to temp? TIA

If the engine doesn't get up to proper temp then the oil doesn't either and it doesn't lubricate as well.

      Danger

It's broken open, and can and will break Closed given some time. Colder is not better, replace it with correct temp. Joe
