    Can I put a 325i cluster in an E

I have the cluster out of my 89 "i" and I was wondering if I can just plug it in to my 87 "e"? Will everything be accurate?

You can use it. Just make sure you switch the "i" coding plug for the eta one.

Just be careful if you do. If you have/or will have a chip that removes your revlimiter, then you may wanna think again. Especially if you ever let someone else drive the car and they over rev it because they don't know where the redline was originally ment to be.

is there anything wrong with your E cluster, or are you just doing this cause you want to?

The tach in my E is all wacky, and the odo is broken. I already replaced the gears in my old cluster.

it'll make the e seem super-ultra-mega fast, if you dont switch the coding plug

the revlimiter in the DME, not the cluster

Which plug do I have to swap out? Got a pic of it?

It's on the bottom right hand corner of the front of the cluster.

i did this without thinking, and the only difference was that the tach no longer worked, but all the other gauges did.

He's saying that if you have a chip, and no rev limiter, then you have to worry about revving too high, because you won't be able to see the redline anymore. But if you have a rev limiter still it doesn't matter as it will stop you if you forget where the redline was.

                        Wtf... No..

The rev limiter is in the ECU.

So i swapped in the cluster and everything is accurate, but my fuel says I have a half tank more than i really do, and the gas light comes on just below half. So should I just swap the fuel unit from my E cluster back in?

Put the e gas gauge in the i cluster. The senders are different. I did the same for mine and it works fine.
