Does no oil mean no start?

I wanted to make sure my new oilpanless 325ic turns over smoothly before going to all the effort of adding an oilpan, but it won't crank over, no click, headlights don't dim... If the sensor reads no oil does it override the starter relay? I don't need to start the engine, just hear it turn over a few rotations.

This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.

IT should still crank over, the car I picked up had it's oil pump shaft snapped into two pieces so there was no oil pressure. The car would still run let alone crank over, infact the car could still run with a seized piston and con rod twisted and snapped into three pieces! Sorry when I originally read you post I thought you were taking about the oil pressure sensor, not the oil level sensor. That being said I havent heard of it over riding the starter relay, I would think you could still crank it.......if not, why not just hook up the sensor and put it in a container filled with oil.

I have started mine with no oil briefly. It's not recommended (obviously) but the electrical system does not prevent it.

The main engine ground straps onto the driver's side of the oil pan. If you don't have the engine grounded, it won't run.

Jumper from the battery to the engine and she cranks quite strongly

Just enough to hear it go, less than a cold start ;)
