wiper delay

what makes the delay (2nd click up) delay the wiper..

theres slow medium and fast right?

my 87 e30 is on medium, medium and Fast. (the down single wipe works)

also... when i hit the swich on the right a little or place a little force, on it it will do the delayed wipe.


is that the relay or the switch.... (ive had to replace the turn swith all ready)

to me it allmost feels like the contacts in the wiper switch have gone, bad... and it just goes to medium and high now....

you can try the wiper switch on the steering column but i would bet that it's to do with the wiper control relay (the biggest black box in the fuse box) or the auto park hot terminal on the wiper motor.

my wipers are possessed the intermittent position either stops the wipers completely, does nothing or chooses its own delay period depending on what it wants to do... lately in the morning the only way to get the wipers to work is to open the hood and give the fuse box a smack. i should really get around to fixing that lol

im leaning to the switch it self... cause if i give it a nice smack when in the delay postion it will delay only for one wipe... (about 5 seconds) then as soon as it goes again, it goes right back to on...

thanks ill mess with that later.. i have to adress some stuff that just poped up 2day first,

My son's 88' was doing the same thing and it turned out that the fuse for the wipers was not making good contact.
