    brake light check light problems

since i picked up the car used, im having an issue with the brake light check light. it always goes off after the first brake application like it should. however, randomly, maybe 10-15 minutes into my drives, if i apply the brakes very lightly, it singals an error. that stays on until the next restart.

the bulbs are the proper silver base type, no brass type. no bulb is burnt. where should i start looking? what is the most common cause of this problem?

I'm interested in an answer on this subject too. I noticed mine doing the same thing on a recent road trip I took.

One of these day I am gonna have to do a full writeup on this.

Pull the left trunk liner. look for the little black box (with 2 connectors) and remove it.

Clean the hell out of the contacts. I recommend CRC Electrical Cleaner highly for this task.

Now do the same for BOTH taillight housings.

99.9% of the time, this is a perfect repair.

BTW, brass or steel base bulbs are just the same. no circuit in this car can tell the difference. Both work fine.

around, i shall add contact cleaning and grounding rework to my list. i have to go back there to figure out why my replacement antenna mast doesnt retract all the way anyway.

i already have some quality electrical contact cleaner.
