    weird outside temp readings

Today while I was sitting parked with the engine running I noticed my outside temperature was steadily climbing .5 a degree at a time. Temp is cold so the temp automatically comes up on the display [black ice warning] When I am driving [moving] the temp drops slowly back down to actual temp....totally weird...

    any one have any ideas??

Last winter I was parked on the ski hill for a couple of days and when I tried to start my car to go home the battery was dead, after push starting it ran awful and had weird engine temp readings. I decided to not risk doing any damage to the engine so I had it towed to a local shop and all they could find was a bad engine ground...seemed to fix the problem.

my car has a m50 in it.

Wondering if the cold weather is causing some grounding issued to show themselves.

    any thoughts greatly appreciated

That probably means that the ambient temp sensor is seeing warmer air from the engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

sometimes things are simplier than appears!

I had that thought of that late last night...although I have never noticed it happening before...but I did just do a bumper conversion so the temp sensor is in a slightly different position [currently tucked in under the lower valence lip] I will take a feel and see if it could be getting warm air from the engine [blown from the fan] when I am parked.

does anyone know where the temp sensor is mounted on the plastic bumper cars, I assume it is mounted in the front valence somewhere.

yes it usually is pretty close when it's colder but reads slightly higher when it's hotter...probably due to the cars dark grey color

It reads hot be when the ambient temperature is warm because it's close to the pavement and its associated reflected heat. Ever walk barefoot across a parking lot in the summertime?
