    Power Window Help '89 325i

My rear pass side window is stuck. Luckily only an inch, and no rain in the forecast. BUT never the less, I need to return it to its full, upright position.

    SO, my question is, HOW!!

The switch had been working, with only a couple problems here and there, I actually thought it was a switch problem. I have found out now, it is not, tried swapping switches, no go. I pulled off the panel, gave the motor a couple good wacks...no luck

When I put the panel back on, I didn't re-connect the switch to the door. I was too frustrated and decided that if I got it working, it would prevent the kids from putting it down anyway. SO, here are my questions...

    A) if the switch is not connected in the back door, can I still operate the window from the front center console? Or does the circuit need to be complete.

    B) Is there anyway to manually crank the window up. Without taking off the metal panel, I didn't see anything that would allow me to insert a tool in order to manually lift the window.

ANY help would be great. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a wiring problem. Whether the window worked or not seemed to be determined by how often that door was opened and shut. AS WELL the wiring for the rear DRIVER door was just replaced about 3 months ago.

    Thanks so much!!

    (pictures would be WONDERFUL)

A.) I have a wiring diagram for 1987 model year cars, and for a 4-door you need the rear switch in place to complete the circuit. I'm assuming that yours is the same.

B.) No, on the pre 88 cars there was a little plastic pop-out where you can stick in a little crank and manually roll the windows inc ase of failure, but they seemed to delete that feature once they changed the window regulator design (after 2/88 ).

If you have a power source (spare battery, batter jumper, etc) you might want to run power directly to the window motor and see if it's still good.

      THANKS!

That helps a ton. I will reconnect the switch and hope that it just miraculously works ONE LAST TIME.

If not, off to the mechanic it is for me. :(

I fixed it. VERY happy with myself right now. It was the wiring! Thanks for the advice!

Glad you found the problem. I'd be pretty happy too, considering that you just saved yourself a couple hundred bucks!
