Engine Cuts out at 3k RPM with MarkD Chip

Yesterday as I was passing somebody the car started dieing or almost stalling when I reached 3k rpm. Sort of like when you don't give it enough gas taking off but catch it and the car comes back to life, making the cluster flicker, except the car is moving pretty fast and in gear. It would happen every time I reached above 4-5k in 1st and 3k in 2nd. Only in gear, not in neutral. Swapped my 173 ecu with the MarkD chip to my old 153 and it ran as smooth as ever. I was running 91 as well, the octane required. It ran fine with the chip for about a month until yesterday. What gives?

If it ran fine before, chances are it isn't the chip. Have you tried the chip in teh 153 ECU or is that a no-go? I don't know much about M20 ECU differences.

Sounds like a timing reference sensor. My e did something like that.

Check out the AFM. Mine did this awhile ago and that turned out to be the problem.
