    HELP: Sunroof Seal (w/ pics)

I'm not sure what sunroof is on my car ('91 318is;) it's not the regular metal piece, rather it is a fully tinted glass piece with metal lips on both the roof surround and the piece itself (I've got pictures.)

It's been cold, but I like to drive with the roof open to circulate cool air which keeps the windows from fogging. Apparently the foamy (for lack of a better word) part of the sunroof seal was wet from melted snow and froze to the roof.

I pressed the button to open the sunroof, and heard a bunch of cracking, a pop, and then the roof opened (the sunroof offers an auto sunroof control button for one-touch operation.) So since it opened, and didn't disengage the one-touch I didn't think anything of it.

It wasn't until i got home and saw the sunroof in the light of the garage that I noticed the seal was hanging off of the sunroof. I took some pictures at this point and proceeded to 'patch' the seal with electrical tape; first taping it with about 30 individual pieces to secure the seal, then with 4 lengthwise strips to cover the whole front of the seal. I took pictures here too.

I don't know what to do from here.

Do I try to find out what sunroof it is and get a new seal? Do I scrap the glass panel and replace it with an OEM metal one? Do I have to get a completely new sunroof (roof, rails, etc...?)

Please excuse the dirty car, it'll get its weekly wash tomorrow.

    Seal falling off.

    Excellent tape job.

I've got power sunroof parts if you need any.

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

It all works fine, you think an oe metal panel would fit as a replacement for the glass one? If so, do you have one?

It would fit. The thing is, you have an über-rare OE moonroof. Even with a bad seal, it is worth some money. Do some research, the parts may or may not still be avaliable.

It IS oe? That was my understanding but the more I look at it the more I start to question it. How can I tell?

Not OE. Never had one touch. Probably something from ASC or someone similar. Bummer someone cut a hole in a non-sunroof car to put that there.
