Difference between manual top and power top on cabrio

I just got a replacement top for my 88 cabrio, but on the order form it said it was for power top. I have a manual top and was wondering if there was any difference between the actual top shape compared to the power top. Don;t want to try installing this if its never going to fit.

I have an '89 manual top and a '91 power top. The only difference is a wire strap ( BMW PART# 54348129978 ) that is used on the power top. The power top will have a tiny sleeve sewn side to side inside of the top to slide the wire strap through. The wire strap assists the top when folding for storage in the compartment. I think it would fit perfectly, but I would recommend calling your top supplier for confirmation. Good luck on the installation. Be sure to follow the instructions (should come with the top) and be very patient. The top should look very professional when you're finished.

          instructions?

Post said instructions, otherwise, 'tis nothing but a figment of your imagination.

            Yoni- correct, no instructions included

I called the supplier and they said it will work with the manual top. The only combo that wouldnt work is one made specifically for the manual top on a power top. Thats why some companies only offer the power top version.

Is this really a feasible DIY project? I'm thinkin it might be worth it to pay a shop to take care of it for me.

I don't know.... unless you have some experience with bodywork/upholstery, I wouldn't do it myself... though, the CHEAPEST I found in my area, is $500 to install... which is condiderably less than the $1000 + quotes I got from 3 other places...

If you don't have experience then you should send it out. But if you want experience then do it and be VERY carefully and be patient.
