    Bench Test a Starter?

Is it possible to bench test a starter? If so, how? And are there any safety precautions? This is a late-model starter btw.

If you just mean check it to see if it spins, then all you have to do is hook it to a battery and give power to the solenoid.

There are three posts on the late model starter, and honestly, I'm not sure which is which.

The "big" terminal(a M8 bolt) is continious +12v, use thick cable, or it will melt.

The bigger of the small terminals is the switched +12 through the ignition lock, that +12 engages the solenoid and makes it spin.

USE THICK WIRES FOR CONTINIUOS +12V AND GROUND OR THEY WILL GET VERY HOT, they will melt and cause burn if you touch them.

If there is no load on the starter, it won't draw THAT much amperage. Don't use small wire, but you don't have to use 00 gauge or anything.
