I have a whining noise coming from my left rear wheel. It increases as i speed up.
Could it be wheel bearings?

Turn hard right, does the sound get louder, more growley? Turn hard left, does the sound mostly go away? Then there you go, wheel bearing.1987 E30 325is

dont go crazy yet...
I did mine thinking its wheel bearing - noise gets louder as speed increases, but did not have clunking sound or increase noise during turning. It turn out to be ebrake line/shoe. Do a very thorough diagnosis before going to town with your bearing.Comment

Rear wheel bearings are a biotch for sure to replace, if you dont NEED them, but it sure sounds like thats whats making my growl, and it does get much worse with a R turn.sigpic 1987 325isComment

For sure the wheel bearing. Wouldn't drive on bad ones for TOO long.... The casing could collapse around the bearing while your driving and weld into the hub from the heat causing your rear wheels to lock up n your car hurtling into some poor person. That would suck.... I drove on my bad ones for a couple 100 and that was pushing it...Comment

Been driving on mine for awhile. Hasnt gotten any worse, but then IF they seize up... well, like you said look out. I should know better but Im still doing it. Guess Ill get these done this week.
