Update: Possible bent valves, need diagnosis?

I drove to a friend's house tonight, then came back to NCSU and parked the car..about an hour later, i came back out to drive it to UNC. I start it up and its making a horrible WHACK WHACK WHACK sound, idling shitty, not wanting to rev. I call nick, he comes over and we take off the valve cover, the rockers are fine. We feel around the timing belt and it feels reallly loose...We came to the conclusion that the torque from the starter could have torqued the already loose belt off the cam gear and skipped a few teeth, causing valves to smack the pistons, hence the noise we are hearing.

Tomarrow we are gonna try and check the timing to see if its still on.

alright, well a friend of mine came by and we figured out that the intake valve on cylinder 6 is bent. The whacking sound we are hearing is the rocker arm hitting the valve/spring that is partially down because it cant come back up (bent). Seems to be the only one though.

        so what are my options?
        a) get a new/used head and throw it on, and drive it
        b) get this head rebuilt
        c) is there a way just to replace the valve and call it a day?

im fucking poor as shit in college! so...yea, any help?

you can do that, but your valve more then likely hit the piston, which would have damaged that. so the first step is pulling off the head, and going from there. if you pull off the head and take some pictures, i'll let you know what you can do.

btw i just rebuilt a head for someone else, its easy....you just got to have the tools :P

i mean if the piston just put a little dent in the piston it will still work, i doubt it punched a hole, as it wasnt moving particuarly fast when it happened

you can replace just one valve.... but you need to make sure it is the same length as the other valves.... but you are going to end up spending ~
              $30 on valve/retainer
              $100 head gasket set
              $30 head bolts

try and run it with the the spark plug wire disconnected from the cyl with the damaged valve

Thats a recipie for making your poor college student budget 10x worse.

Park it, and plan on driving the jeep. if you're going to replace 1 valve, do them all since you've got a turbo.

Half assed now = more $ later
