    Resetting odometer? Anyone know how?

Anyone know how to reset or change the odometer to show 000000km?
I have bought a new instrement cluster and its got 140000km more than what is actually on the car, would't mind turning it back or resetting it.

E30 odometers can die from just pushing the trip reset button in while moving.

If its actually working, I wouldn't mess with it.

You can take it apart and risk a million pieces of odometer exploding in your face or use a small screwdriver to pry the numbers back, I've heard some people had success doing that and some people destroyed the odometer. Also you can pay a shop.

I replaced my non working speedo. While I had it out I noticed the new one the odo # did,nt line up. I took out the odo gears and with a 90 degree pic you can reach in to the odo and pry forward between the nimbers I was just going to make then stright but went ahead and put them close to what my non working numbers were. Also Somebody else here took compressed air and rolled it around using the last gear to spin the numbers. Mine is working good but do this at your own risk. A Curtis

It's not really that hard. Just pull the little plastic box apart, remove a gear or two, and roll the whole thing back by hand, Ive done it twice, and had no problems either time. Good luck

If you're good at working with very small, delicate stuff (electronics...), it's not a bad job. I took apart my donor speedo and reset mileage to the original. Just be careful. And if you reset to zero, you will never be able to sell the car.
