Very high idle when in park?

On my 325e auto, when the car is in either park or neutral the RPMs are very high. Sometimes 1500, others closer to 2000. Whats going on? Just replaced the ICV still the same thing. Sometimes the idle is fine, right around 7-800. Other times it shoots up and stays around 1500? Just replaced the AFM too because the car was stalling when not on the gas, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. Any ideas?

have the same exact issue as you are and so far no luck. Cleaned the ICV, threw in some fuel injector cleaner and nothing. Some of the guys on here suggested that it might be an intake leak, but i tore apart my intake system and put back all together with new clamps and same thing kept happening.

good luck ... maybe check your intake for leaks :D

I tore everything apart when I put in the AFM, everything looked good. None of the hoses were dry rotted or cracked...

I think my issue is its sticky. I swapped in another one this afternoon and I think I may have fixed it. How far down should the screw be? Mine is all the way screwed down. Is that normal?

I think its sticky because when its in park and I rev it a little the RPMs kinda hang up there for a bit but gradually come back down to normal.

Even with a known good ICV, an incorrect idle speed can be the result of:

          1) Bad or mis-adjusted TPS
          2) Mis-adjusted throttle stop
          3) Sticky throttle body or throttle cable
          4) Bad DME temp sensor
          5) False A/C on input to the DME
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I think I can rule out 2 and 3 because when driving the rpms drop when I let off the gas like normal.

I just picked up a good tps and am going to try that next. Where is the DME temp sensor located? Any pictures?

The DME temp sensor is typically the lower of the the two in the rear of the thermostat housing.

I have this problem to, however I only get high rpm's in park (P). When I'm in drive (D) or sport (S) I get normal idle rpm's (around 700, is that normal?). When in park I'll see rpm's up to 1500, no higher. Any new ideas?
                Oh, I drive an 86 325es.
