MAJOR cold start problem this morning!! HELP

So started up the car this morning in 8 degrees (no big deal it starts fine at -10 degrees) and it would start and rev to about 1500 then immediately die. Do it again, same thing. So then start it and give it gas, and it is missing really bad and had to feed it to keep it alive. After about 15 seconds of missing horribly it starts to smooth out a little. After about 45 seconds it is idling normal. Drove to work. Started it up to go home, did the same thing. This time after 45 seconds and it was smoothing out, it was reving up to around 2000 RPM and staying there and i couldn't kick it down. After driving 1/4 mile or so it was totally normal.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks guys,
    Brian

EDIT: Also, brand new Coolant Temp Sensor installed. New intake boot. no intake leaks.

bad icv, cold start valve, or a bad temp switch

Sticking AFM flap, maybe. My car behaves just like that with the AFM disconnected.

I just took the AFM off and everything looked good and flap moved freely.

Why would the ICV work ok after 45 seconds of running?
What is the cold start valve and where is it located?
        Temp switch is new.

keep the ideas coming, car is in the garage and Im going out and working on it as you suggest things.

Your 88 doesn't have a cold start valve and a bad DME temp sensor is unlikely to cause this problem. My bet would be a sticky ICV, throttle body/cable, or an intake leak.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

My car acted up like that the other week when it was well below zero. Misfiring, wouldn't idle unless you kept some throttle input. I had thought of the AFM door sticking. Or it could've been the fact i had less than a 1/4 tank in -14* weather. Hasn't acted up like that since(of course i keep plenty of gas in the tank now) And the ICV hasn't worked on my car since i've owned it. So no cold idle up feature. Just likes to hover about 750-800 rpm's.
