I changed the clusters on my e30 from one with a broken speedo to one with a working one..... now the problem is that everything was normal with the broken one and now that i swapped my engine temp has gone over one notch and sits there when the engine is warmed up.... How do i fix this?

try swapping the old engine temp gauge in place of the new one. if it goes back to the way it was, then you just need to figure out which one is correct. it seems unlikely that changing your cluster actually caused a change in the engine temperature. probably one of the engine temp gauges is faulty.

While it is possible that the temp gauge in this cluster is bad, I think it more likely that the cause is the contacts where the temp gauge mounts to the main PCB in the cluster or that this cluster has a failing or bad SI board.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

One symptom of a bad SI board is the inability to reset the Service Indicators. Try that and see what happens.
You can determine if the temp gauge in the cluster works and whether the wiring to the gauge is good. With the connector to the temp system removed, the needle should go to full cold. With the connector jumpered to ground, the needle should go to full hot. If those conditions are met, replace the sensor. If not start looking at the cluster and/or wiring.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
