    Power window help!

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can kindly help me with a power window query. My friend's and I were working on the E30 today, (we just took out the backseat and speakers all round) to check a few things out and when we had finished, somehow the passenger side power window wasn't working.

We checked the fuses and there doesn't seem to be a problem there. The window was working fine before hand and the only electronics we touched all day were the stock speakers (we just took them out and didn't change any wiring, etc.) and all other electric functions are working (incl/ driver side power window, sunroof, etc.) so I can't quite work out what could be wrong. If anybody could give me some advice on what the problem could be, I'd be very appreciative. BTW, the light on the power window switch in question IS working.

If anybody can help, I would be very grateful, thanks,

try cleaning the electrical contacts. im pretty sure they will still light up even if they aren't making a good enough connection to give the windows the signal to go up or down. e30 switches are very well known to start sucking after 15 years.

Ok, I'll try that, thanks man. Are there any other things that I can do if that doesn't work? That does make sense though because the light is still coming up on the switch and therefore it must still be getting some power at least (meaning that I haven't unplugged or worse cut anything I shouldn't have, would you agree, or..? Thanks,

Ahhh, I tried cleaning the contacts on the switch, checked the fuse again and everything seems to be fine but the window still won't open! The light on the switch still comes on and both the driver side window and sunroof both still work with no worries. Does anybody have any other ideas of what I could have done wrong? The only wiring that may have been touched was that around the right hand side speaker area as I was changing speakers.

Any thoughts/ advice/ recommendations, I would love to hear them! Thanks,

Does anybody have any ideas? At this stage, I'm not sure whether I need to buy a new switch or whether it is a problem inside the door somewhere? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks,

k, you can check it without messing with the door. check for voltage at the connector and check ground. if you are getting voltage and good ground from the harness, check out the switch. if both are fine, it can either be the motor or regulator. check to see if the motor is working. if you need a lighted switch i can sell you one for like 3 bucks + cheap shipping.
