    brake pads... again

i've searched around a lot so don't gimme that quite yet,

i'm looking for a low dust, relatively cheap(broke college student), and relatively well performing brake pad. from what i gathered seems like HPS are the way to go. but they're rather expensive.

i was looking around the net and found these "posi quiet ceramic" brake pads.

anyone can gimme some input on these? they're less than 50 bucks an axel so i'm thinking i might wanna go with them

or if someone can send a link for cheap HPS my way, that'd be great too.

I don't think I paid more than about $100 for my hps, but I can't remember where I bought them.

Also there was a thread with a deal on a brake package from one of the forum vendors. I can't find it right now but I didn't look too hard.

Edit: BMA has a good price on pbr metal masters, I've heard good things about those but no personal experience.

I will echo the PBR Metal Masters. I've used the PBR Ceramics and liked them, but the Metal Masters get great reviews and are a low dust pad.

        yeah, no.
ive wanted info on this subject in the past and found roughly three threads that had full lists and numerous members providing feedback. The info is on this web site. Learn how to search. Youll be happy you did.

here is a tip, you WILL have to venture back a year or three.
here is another, sometimes, the good stuff is linked through other less informative threads. so you have to read!

shit, i feel like my handle title should be Search Nazi

hm at least you're not a dick about it.

anyway so... i'm getting mixed reviews on PBR ceramic/mm some say one dusts and the other doesn't or vise versa and they both seem to have decent stopping power.
my current brake pads dust black hell and cleaning bottle caps are a pain in the ass. so i want something with less dust... that stops well... for cheap...

hm i guess they always say pick two for engines, same goes for everything else huh

I got my pads from Raceshopper when i had my MINI, the hawk HP+ pads held up really nice and were a big improvement from the stock pads on there. The dust was really low also and i also got them with a pair of cryo slotted rotors. I plan on doing the same set up with the E30 but with stainless lines.

I'm running PBR ultimates. I was initially disappointed, as they seemed to fade quite quickly on something like a mountain run. But then I took the car to a trackday and beat on it all day, with no brake problems at all. I guess they just needed to be broken in... They are very dusty, so don't consider them a clean pad. However, they work quite well; authoritative initial bite, linear friction, great temperature range, hard compound (no squishy), medium-high torque, and easy on rotors. I like them, but I'm also running brake dust-colored wheels...

My experience with brake pads is that you must chose a compromise between all the performance factors, and the more money you spend, the better the sum of the characteristics will be.

I have HPS pads on another car of mine. At the risk of catching shit, it's a 2000 Camaro SS, with a good bit of suspension work and some minor engine mods. I used to track it before I built my E30. The car weighs 3800 lbs on-track, and will quickly overpower HPS pads during trackday, but they work fairly well on the street. They're easy on rotors, quiet, and relatively low-dust, especially if you're easy on the middle pedal.

I just replaced my fronts with Euro Akebono ceramic pads ($80 at BMA parts). Supposedly they are very low dust... I haven't cleaned my wheels yet to see the amount of new dust produced but I will tell you that they are somewhat soft on the grip.
