Air conditioning

I search a few things, and got close to what i wanted to hear, but still doesnt help my issue.

My AC doesnt work when its clicked to 1,2, or 3. And then it clicks onto 4 it sounds like an airplane is trying to land on the car.

It does work on 4 though, and it blows cold when it does. And when i usually put it on to see what horrible noises it will make this time it blows my window fuse.:???::???:

So im at a lose at the moment, and not sure what to do! i dont want to take it to an ac shop and have them tell me i need a whole bunch of random crap. because id rather just take the AC out of the car than pay $500 to fix it.

That sounds like problem with the blower motor resistor and blower. A bad speed resistor (or a bad speed switch) can cause the blower to only operate on max setting. Failed blower impellers (they are plastic) and/or bad bearings will cause the blower to be very noisy. The fix is neither difficult nor expensive.

Echo of what jlevie said, if you have basic hand tools (7 or 8mm socket and driver) and entry level mechanical competence (can you change brake pads?) you should be able to replace the blower motor.

Search the forum for diy instructions on changing the blower motor.
