    Major Electrical Problems on E30

    Hey guys,

I have a 1986 BMW 325 and I decided to fix my heat. When I purchase the vehicle it had no heat it was bypassed. So I got a new heater valve installed it and it worked great. Took it for a spin and put in gas and now the car is dead I checked the fusible link it was blown so i replaced it with a 80amp fuse and I got all my power back so i tried to start the the car and everything died again. So I tested all positive wires to the power block in the front of the car and it has .050 volts. If i take the terminal off that leads that goes to the fuse box the power block gets 10.8 volts to at the power hub. so I connected everything together and I started to pull fuses and I realize that fuse 21 is dropping the voltage to .050 volts.

Now when I took out fuses 21 thru 28 the car has 12.73 volts going to the fuse box but, the car is still dead won't start? Any suggestions I really do need help with this.

First, do you have your electrical diagram?

You will find "fuse details" that show exactly what each fuse does, so you might wanna start there.

www.wedophones.com is the link, go to "manuals" then "automotive" and you will get it then.

    Report back after study time!

I'd guess that you have a high resistance connection between the power block and the battery.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

open up the fuse box.. check the wiring inside to make sure nothing's melted.

Thanks for all the suggestions, here is the update:

I took each wire from the power block and touch each wire to the 12v from the battery.. and I found that the wire that the red wire that goes to the fuse box that is connected directly in the center of the fuse box is what is draining the power. That same location has another wire running into the cabin up the steering column.

So now I'm not sure if its the fuse box or something to do with the ignition. I have a manual and I'm taking my time going through each section.. but, I'm still lost... I will take a better look inside the fuse box to see if any wires are melted or not.

Thanks again for the suggestions if anyone has anymore ideas that would be GREAT!
