t-stat torn to shreds? sheesh, i've never even seen that.
when you replace it, you lose a lot of coolant. refill with the right kind, and bleed the cooling system by briefly loosening the screw on the top of the thermostat housing with the engine running. you'll have to do it several times over a few days to be sure you get all the air out.
