Car takes a while to start up on warm/hot days - Any ideas?

Hey guys, new to this forum and I own a 1990 E30 318i...recently noticed that on warmer days the car takes longer to start up...specially when I go to work and leave it in an uncovered car park...once sat in it for literally half n hour constantly turning the key before it started up again

I know its not a battery problem coz I had that replaced about 4 weeks ago so just wondering if anyone has any clues or has experienced anything similar? Cheers

constantly turning the key before it started up again
That right there makes it sound like a starter issue to me, but as always, a problem can't just be diagnosed like this. Make sure you get it checked out by a mechanic unless you're willing to replace the starter and find out for yourself.

warmer days the car takes longer to start up
      what does that mean?

      1. Does the starter engage and turn the engine over (crank over)?
      2. Does it just take longer to fire up (run)?

Be more specific....."start up" is too ambiguous

sorry...well i'd say that it's just taking longer to fire up but the engine definitely isn't turning over at the first turn of the key...starter seems fine to me but then again i'm no mechanic

so you turn the key to the start position, is the starter making the starting sound you know "wa wa wa wa" or what ever. or does it do nothing when you turn the key. i.e silence

If you dont know the difference between cranking over and not cranking over. Go see a mechanic

does nothing when u turn the key...but i've pinpointed it to do with the ignition barrel getting hot and most likely heating the wiring inside...it was really hot yesterday and took around an hour to get it going...managed to keep it relatively cooler today using sun shades and started without hesitation
