    Gas leak near fuel filter

Well, one of my rubber gas lines has sprung a small leak. The line runs from somewhere near the top of the tank (couldn't see) to the fuel filter inlet. It's leaking where it bends 180 degrees to go into the filter.

The question is; I've only glanced underneath at the leak, as I wasn't wearing crappy clothes at the time. Where does the top of that line connect? Am I going to have to drop the tank down slightly to get to it?

Well, I'll go ahead and update this for future reference. This was on a '91 318is.

To get to this specific hose, you need to drop the gas tank down a bit. There are 13mm bolts near all 4 corners of the tank, as well as one behind the exhaust shielding.

Remove the front 2 10mm bolts on the shield covering the gas tank, then remove the rear 6 13mm bolts for the exhaust shielding. That should give enough room to use a swivel and get to the last 13mm holding the tank in place.

Once the tank is dropped (you won't have to support it; it only drops ~1.5"), you should have enough room to take the clamp off the line, and pull/replace it. I removed the bracket that holds the fuel filter as well (3 10mm nuts) to gain better access to the hose clamp.
