    my eta died :(

About 2 weeks ago I started having a phantom rev limiter. Would start kickin in about 4K rpm and come down as the car warmed up. Last week it just wouldn't rev past 3K no matter what, and today I barely got it home. Any amount of throttle and it would sputter and die. No backfires. Here's what I know:
    -unplug O2 sensor nothing changes
-unplug ICV and it hits 2k and stays there
    -unplug afm, car dies.
-unplug coolant temp sensor, idle is rough.
-unplug tps, idle is a little bouncy but runs fine
-unplug fpr, idle is fine, car runs same.

Dunno how loud a fuel pump is supposed to be, but mine sounds a tad loud. Also don't know how old my fuel filter is, it looks old but I don't wanna pay my local dealer price of 25 bucks for one. I put fuel system cleaner in last fill up and it's had 175 miles to circulate. Maybe this loosened crap in my tank and is clogging the filter now?

Grr, I want my car back. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Replace the fuel filter.

Buy a new one from www.bmaparts.com for about $15.90

Install it yourself, all you need is a 10mm socket and a flathead screwdriver. Super easy.

You would be amazed how many problems are caused by not enough fuel. Start at the fuel filter and go from there. If you don't know when it was last changed its time to do it anyways!

I'd bet that Jordan is right, especially if you just put some sort of solvent in the tank...whatever varnishy crap you had sticking to the side of your tank just got all gooey and ended up in your filter.

But I'd also say that if you unplugged the O2 sensor and nothing changed, then it's possible that the O2 sensor is dead.

You dont need the o2 sensor in your eta. Ive been running without one for several years. If the fuel filer doesnt take care of it, might not be fuel related, could be ignition. If you think 25 for a filter is bad, good luck if your ignition is out. I had to replace just about everything electrical under my hood, well dad did. Because basically we could have dropped in an m50 for the price of my motor work (wow, i just realized that).

            more detective work....

found ou from P.O. that both pumps + filter were replaced in 2/03. Also at the time, car was having trouble running, pretty much same symptoms. The shop that did the work also put in a spare ecu and then the car ran fine.

I got a new fuel filter just to try out, dunno what's gonna happen, hopefully that'll fix it, but since they were done so recent I'm guessing they're ok and my problem is electrical. Nice. I mean, shit.

Yes, just repairs, my motor is bone stock. I tried a spare ecu, but it did not help. I wish plug wires didnt cost as much as they did for these cars. Everything you need; cap, rotor, coil, plug wires and plugs.
