    Clutch is gone!

My clutch finally went out today. So what should i replace while im down there.

Ill probably start buying on friday. I am currently driving my 1986 325E and that has a bad wheel bearing and a bad transmission but it runs and actually moves so i can drive that to my work thank goodness.

I am looking on BMA and it looks to be about 205$ for a clutch kit. am i right?

I have not really replaced a clutch before in my life but i guess its time i learn.

Just make sure you get the r3v discount with BMA. Do you have a bentley manual? Thought I remember you saying you didnt have one yet, you should try and pick it up, really makes first time jobs go by faster.

P.S. Any plans that don't include an automatic VW are ok by me.. ;)

bavauto has a kit for around $230 including tranny seals, exhaust gaskets, t/o bearing, pivot pin, and some other stuff. But it sounds like it'll be cheaper to call BMA and have them source all the parts for you.

all i know about is the discount code for BMA.

Do you guys know any other way i can get ahold of patrick to get a discount like Matt.

120 and 160 is all i can really afford at the moment so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I will get on ebay this morning and search around for some good deals.

            Edit:

What sort of makes me chuckle is that i can put my car in gear and walk away and it will not try to stall. It is not good for it though and you get that wonderful smell of clutch too. :?

having only 120 or 160 to go into something youve NEVER done before is going to be real tough. You better have some awesome connections and hope nothing goes wrong during the install. Good luck man.

Is this pretty difficult to do?

If that is not enough to get the car back up running again i guess i will have to spend a little more. just about anything as i can not have this car sitting more then 2 weeks.

I am having my father help me out with this as he knows quite a bit about cars. been an Aircraft Technician for about 27+ years so he knows a bit about this which really helps instead its not an aircraft is a car heh.

just email him. patrick@bmaparts.com also, now that i look back on the email he sent me, the clutch kit was actually 165, buts thats still more than 10% off the $200 listed on bma's website.

I just finished putting a clutch kit and tranny mounts in my 318is 2 weeks ago for the first time and I ran into a bunch of just random small parts that had to be replaced. Shit happens, ya know. Like I sheered one of the exhaust bolts straight off because it was rusted together and just a few other events like that. I could not have done it without a bently manual. Make sure you have female torx sockets and lots of extensions. I would say it was not easy doing it for the first time but if I had to do it again I could have gotten things done in half the time. But quicker isn't better ;)

I was brainstorming some ideas today and i came up with a cheap solution to my problem.

My beater has a good tranny and bad throw out bearing well i was thinking i can drop that tranny fix the 30$ problem and probably other little things minus clutch as the clutch is fine in that car and then install that transmission into my blue car. If all goes well the blue car shall be back up and running again with an updated getrag 260. 8)

Downfall is that im taking away my only means of transportation meaning id have to do this in 2 days..start on saturday and finish on sunday hoping all goes well. :x
