New here, got a few questions

Hey guys, I mostly just lurk around here but I have a few questions for you guys.. I've got an 87 325e that's having a few issues..

My tac has recently decided to only work when it wants to, everything else on the cluster works fine.. So far I haven't had the tac stop working, sometimes it just won't start working when the car turns on, once it's going though it doesn't stop. The economy meter works too, so I'm pretty sure the cluser is getting the signal from the tac, do I just need to resoder something? I pulled out the cluser and tehre weren't any cracks or anything..

The other issue I'm having is that my thermostat to lower radiator hose got cut by my alternator. I put a new hose on and I have it zip tied so that it can't move close to the alternator for the time being, but what could be the cause of this?

Your help would really be apprecaited.. Thanks guys

Your tach problem is likely in the SI board, either bad batteries or corrosion from batteries or both.

Your radiator hose problem can be fixed by replacing motor and tranny mounts.

Oh yeah, SEARCH!!! this has been covered a thousand times.

Alright thanks. I tried searching, maybe I was putting too much in the search field though because I couldn't really find anything about it.. So my sporatic tac is a symptom of the SI batteries even if everything else works fine in the guage?

Oh I had another question (tried searching). When I turn my steering wheel I get this really weird feeling in the wheel, it's hard to describe. I can turn the wheel, and then all of a sudden it's like I hit a notch in the wheel and it gets slightly harder to turn for a split second and then it's back to normal. I can recreate this easily by just having my car sit still in my driveaway and turning the wheel back and forth, it's pretty much the same spot in the turn each direction I get the feeling where it gets a little harder to turn for just a split second and then it's back to normal.. Recently I redid my whole suspension (tie rods, CA's, spring/shocks/CAB) all that fun stuff, so I don't think it's my suspension. I also know that when I did my suspension I saw a fair amount of ATF inside of the tie rod boots indicating my power steering is leaking, and the PS pump makes a horrible noise when I lock the wheel. I'm thinking that this is something that comes along with your power steering dying, but I'm not sure and it's got me worried. Any ideas?

sounds like a dying PS pump to me too, sucks huh?

Alright I'll double check the belt, I know the fluid is full.. So you think it's the pump dying or the rack, or both?
