    Fuel pump buzz

Since I’ve owned my e30 325i (3 months now) I’ve noticed that the in tank fuel pump has a constant buzzing sound. I have not replaced it yet because it works.
I did replace the fuel filter thinking it may be clogged and causing the fuel pump to work harder? But it still sounds the same.

Just wondering if anyone has the same buzzing noise from their fuel pump?

Yup, have the same buzz on my 86 325e, it's the pump in the tank. I have been told that it will need to be replaced at some point in time before it fails.

all fuel pump buzzes.. if its really loud, check to see if your sound dampners are still under the seat. If not the noise could be pretty loud. I have a e38 and the noise is ... extremely loud for a luxury car, and it seem to be a prevalent issue.

The buzzing means your fuel pump is dying. Replace it asap, because when it dies, your whole car dies. It will just stop.

True it's an accepted fact that it's going when it get's loud, but they can last a long time while buzzing. When they go they'll do it when you can't do anything about it. I carry a good used spare in my trunk for this reason.

Some aftermarket pumps are horribly loud new out of the box, so it could also be a pump that's still good, just naturally loud.

Generally, the humming is nothing electrical but crud getting stuck in the pump. Once the pump visits the choir invisible, take it out and hook it up to your battery. If nothing, reverse the polarity. You may give your pump a second life by breaking the gunk out.

                Good luck.
