    5 speed bellhousing spacer? HELP!!!!!!!

I bought what I thought was a complete auto to 5 speed conversion but it appears to be missing a tin spacer or shield that goes between the bellhousing and the engine block. Is this item something really necessary? I tried to find it in Pelican parts but could not find the item--it kind of looks like a big W. Anyone have an extra laying around? HELP --PLEASE--- I'm anxious to start my conversion~~~
    thanks and regards---Huck

it's a debris shield, makes sure nothing is flying in or out of your bell-housing.

I have a few of them, but your auto one should fit back.

you are talking about #17, right?

When I first did the clutch in my car I left the shield out, more crap to reinstall....Put everything back together, hit the key and the damn thing sounded like a chevy starter that wasn't shimmed right. The starter gear didn't engage the flywheel correctly. Put the shield back in, everything was golden.

Aptyp---yep--item #7 is the question. If my auto unit has one too, and they are the same, then I should be fine. Just need to get all new pilot bearing stuff, and want to replace the front transmission seal and the block rear main seal so that once I do this job, I wouldn't have to go vack in for some stupid el-cheapo part. The clutch is like new as is the slave cylinder and the throwout bearing. I have access to a 4 poster lift and have done similar jobs before so I am hoping to get most of the swap done in one day. Hummmm

I never realized it was also used as spacer, but then I've never left it out...

Yup, Huck, you're in good hands here.
