    My last key broken!

I was disappointed that I planned to get more copy keys. But it was my last key is broken. Guess I have to replace whole car? If you have one would like to buy it but my question how do i replace on steering?

Go to your BMW dealer with your Registration and license or whoever the car is registered under...all they need is proof of ID and your VIN #.

What town and state are you in? An 87 BMW is not too old for them to order parts..trust me...I just did this for an 88 BMW let alone your 87? Your dealer just doesn't want to help you...even my friggin Nissan Dealer has the ability to cut keys based on VIN#s.

Did you tell them what you wanted to do? Simply go to the parts counter and tell them you would like to have a replacement or spare key made. Show them your registration card which has your VIN# on it, show them your driver's license to prove that you are the same guy who's name is on the reg. card and that's it.

If your dealer still refuses, try another dealer in your locale...

It doesnt hurt to try, or else change the ignition with all new locks.

if it doesnt worh email BMWNA and tell them the dealer is a pile of shit. They should redirect your request to one that isnt. I went in and had them make me keys off the new chassis because they are eaiser to grip with gloves and the light works better.
            Im now E30less.

Go to the dealer... they keep the codes for all car keys on file at BMW GbH.
It will take time to get them....
Or you can buy a whole new set of locks for the car and a new iginition column and spend countless wasted hours to fix something that requires no more than a trip to the dealer...

              But you decide
              Below the radar...

I replaced my lock set so i dont have the original set as it would show in the vin, what should i do if a key breaks?

I dont have the vin for the lock set either and i dont think that would even matter since as i read you need a registration and licenese.

Im just curious just in case this ever so happens to happen to me.

You can still have it cut. Buy a blank off ebay and take it to a qualified key cutter or the dealer.. I dunno if the dealers sell blanks though.

You'll be S.O.L. You can take the ignition or door lock out and they can be matched by a locksmith..so I've heard...this can be avoided by always having a spare key...

It's probably cheaper at the dealer, have you asked? I think so because I got the non lighted one for $6.95 and that's cut custom, with the nice plastic fob. Ebay has them for 10+.

my lighted key of the new style with the light insert cartridge was $20 cut. I put that LED mod in it and it rocks.

Now I just want to find the part# for the colored roundel.
