sounds like a bearing - but it's not... iX

    This is in a 1991 325ix
So I've got what sounds like a toast front passenger bearing - but it isn't that... The bearing WAS toast, but I just replaced it, and the noise is still there.
Sort of a tick tick tick, that goes with the speed of the car - the faster you go, the quicker the tick.

Also, I should note that it stops ticking as soon as I let off the gas..

What should I be checking here - what chould it be ?

    TIA

When you replaced the bearing did you check that journal for wear (with a micrometer)? If the journal is out of spec you could have noise from that.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

It was done by a garage - so I would assume they did what was necessary - I'll double check with them, though.

Anything else it can be ?

If it is clearly coming from the passenger side, it could be the outer CV joint on the axle. Those are the only major components up there that rotate at the speed of the wheel. Usually the CV joint goes when the boot gets damaged, but they can just wear out over time.

BTW CV joints click like crazy when they are bad. The balls eventually cause pitting and galling in their races, which makes them snap back and forth.

Pretty sure it IS the CV joint ...

Whats the best way to fix this -

Do i have to have the axle rebuilt ?

            Thanks
