    Central Lock Module Replacement

Wasn't sure if this went in body or what, so I put it here.

Anyway, my driver's door lock still doesn't work. I can't lock it with the key, but I can unlock it with the key. I have to reach in from the pass. side and lock it manually.

If I were to simply replace my faulty center lock module, would this possibly allow my locks to be operated from the trunk?

Yes you can lock your doors from the trunk and the reason you cant lock the drivers door may simply be a matter of taking the door panel off and lubing everything up real good. Worst case you'll need a new lock

Well, when I turn the key in the driver's door lock as if I were going to lock it, there is zero resistance. I think the motors are just dead--ever since I've had the car the central locking has been messed up.

Well even if the motors are dead, the tumbler is connected directly to the lock. You should be able to lock the door with the key even if the battery was dead. Since there is zero resistance you probably need a new door lock. Something must have broken off the back of it

So locking the trunk will also lock the doors? I never noticed and I keep the trunk locked constantly... or am I doing something wrong? I'm a n00b, forgive me

If your central locking is functioning properly any lock should lock everything all together. Generally what happens is that a grounding wire in the junction block in the a pilar on the drivers side gets corroded and looses contact which renders the whole system faulty. So if your car does have the central locking system and your locks are not working you need to pull that connection and clean or replace pins to make it work.

Here is my problem... my locks are messed up too. The drivers door cylinder is F'd up and I can't lock but, I can unlock. When you turn it to lock it has resistance but won't engage fully. Sometimes when the key is turned to the right it will slightly engage, and if you keep turning it, it will wiggle down and you can pull the handle and it will lock it. The trunk stopped working the central lock system. My house was robbed...and that stupid thug has my key. I need to replace all my locks and I want the central locking system working. How difficult is it to replace/re-key the locks?

maddog, as stated many times on this site, the dealer can get you new keys.
but if you want new locks and keys, you need to order a car lock set. Not sure whats involved with the order specifics but the ignition tumbler is somewhat a pain.

a question from me.. i think im going to take a risk and buy a central locking system from the wreck yard.. since mine dose not work(maybe im doing something wrong)... but if i were to get another locking system. is it easy to change. or would i have to cut and t-tap wires???

sometimes investigating the problem a little results in a simple fix. Heres what happened to my central lock module when I had problems with it. I took it apart and found this. THen just soldered it back together

Luckily have 2 e30s and swapped a working module so I could quickly isolate the problem.
