Big splice of wire found

Hi , i’m in floor repair for my 1990 325IS .
i have found this big splice of wire Green/ white wire
without any connections at the end . Even nothing left on the floor itself . It was there underneath the floor carpet near driver side.

anyone know if this need to be grounded?
Or it is suppose to be reseal and lay there ?

That would be a factory splice, if the end has become exposed, some heatshrink over the top will do the trick.
