    Slipping Belt

    Hey all!

I live in Wisco and daily drive my 318IS.

Hit a snow bank a couple weeks ago after we got a storm and it must have knocked the allen bolt on my tensioner loose for the AC belt.

My belt squeaks like no other currently and I'm wondering if I was to remove it while waiting for new parts if this would affect my heat? I really don't want this belt to shred itself and kill my power steering and alternator belts but at the same time I like heat.

    Any insight would be great

Perfectly safe to run no A/C belt for as long as you need, and the only immediate downside will be no A/C. You could just tighten the tensioner, but it's worth considering that the pulley may have been damaged and may be running out of round.

As an aside, you can also remove the P/S belt with no other issues, and it's how I suggest changing an alternator belt in a pinch if you have a belt failure on a trip.
