Car revs high on cold startup

As the title says my car will shoot the idle up when it is started cold, then settles into a normal idle. I'm afraid of causing damage to my bearings b/c of oil starvation. Most of the info I found pertained to m10's or eta's w/ cold start valve, don't have either. Is there a way to fix this? I had an older saab 900 Turbo that'd crank until the OPlight went out then would start to prevent oil starvation. Is there a way to make this happen on an m20?

No. Your car is normal. Check your oil level and condition just to be safe.

In the past 7 years of owning my car this only happens rarely. It'll rev to 2500-3000 then settle down. Usually it only goes up to about 1500 or so. Thats what I meant about high revs.

          Clean the ICV.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
