    Coolant light on, not overheating

Just like the title. 90 325i with M20. Supposed to have new WP and thermo. The coolant light comes on after it warms up, not on when first starting up cold. Stays on, goes off when the car is turned off and restarted, then comes on again.

NO signs of actually overheating and the temp gauge stays at 1100 position, never makes it to straight up.

    1. Is the temp gauge fouled up?
    2. IS the car low on coolant. I see it in the expansion tank, it appears to NOT be low.

Is this a coolant level sensor issue, overheating mildly, or something else??

Anyone, chime in..this has me concerned. Car drives fine. No sign of missing or otherwise.

Assuming your gauge is accurate, you have nothing to worry about.

Seeing as you have a noticeable amount of coolant in your car, it could potentially be your coolant sensor (as said above). Check to see if its shorting out somewhere. If not, buy a new one.

            UPDATE:

I pulled the coolant sensor out of the tank and it seems "stuck" as in the float wouldnt move. Spritzed it with some lithium grease, moved it a little up and down to lub it and screwed it back in.

No More coolant light!! Problem solved.
