    Engine Swap

I am a newbie to the forum and have a few questions. I am considering a friends 92 e36 he will sell it for $700. I wanted an S52 or something from a later model. Would this early M50 be a good investment? I know the service history and I also would have a complete car to use, instead of piecing eveything together. Would this also be a good donor for a five lug conversion and rack&pinion? If you think this is a good purchase, what other items should I do while I have it apart? (water pump,t-stat housing, cam swap????) I have around 3k set aside so I could do some upgrades to the motor before its installed or I could spend that money on a different motor?

Yes it would be a good buy, the ealry block can be bored and stroked to make 3.2 liters i think and the suspension parts will come in handy for a ifve lug conversion

The DOHC conversion wrietup will be up soon.

the non vanos M50 canbe bored to M3 spec but doing all this for your budget isnt going to happen. Just do the cam swap or save alot more cash and build up an S50/S52 from the current motor.

Man, just do the 2.5 with the cam swap. Its fast enough. Then save up for boost.

IF you have a non Vanos there is no need for Cam swaps

If you have a m50tu you can get some power from the s50 cams.

I would keep the non vanos stock for now and boost it later.
