So I was driving my '87 325e on the freeway for about 1.5 hours yesterday, was running fine. I get slowed down in traffic and when I push the clutch in to downshift I notice the car starts surging between about 1300-2000 rpms.. I was really confused but after about 15 seconds it went away and started driving like normal. Any ideas on what the deal is? This only happens after a long freeway drive (I repeated it with another 1.5 hour drive, but if I'm only on the freeway for like 20 minutes nothing happens).
I also have another issue that I can't figure out how to search (but I'm sure it's been covered). When I rev my car up it seems to die after about 4000rpms, it becomes rough, you can feel the car slow down and then get power back until redline (happens rapidly, slow normal slow normal). I also have been noticing a burning smell when I get out of the car (going to check if its oil hitting the exhaust tomorrow). Any ideas on this one?
Thanks guys
