    Old Gas Smell, Carbon Canister?

    Howdy.

So i was driving my convertible (M42) home and started getting a faint smell of old gas. this is strange because i just replaced the fuel tank, filter, and all lines all the way up into the intake. Even if i had a small leak somewhere, i feel like it shouldnt smell this way. this smells like old gas. Ive heard that the people who do charcoal canister deletes suffer a gas smell occasionally. while my canister is still present perhaps it is not funcitoning as it should be?

I did not replace my injector o-rings. could this be the cause? The smell appeared after a solid hour of driving 90+mph, so i wonder if the injectors running at full chat would eventually let some fuel through the seal. No drips on the ground, cant see any wet spots on any of the lines. the smell seems to be coming from the engine bay. im going to open up the intake and replace the two stubby pieces of fuel line + injector o-rings.

has anyone experienced something similar to this? i just filled up and i havnt noticed any smell yet....driving more leisurely tho

make sure your rubber fuel lines don't have pin hole leaks.

copy, will try to investigate this more closely. can anyone attest to symptoms of injector o-ring failure? or anything pertaining to those charcoal canisters?

Have you checked all the lines back near the filler cap? Behind the wheel well cover is the overflow tank. In that hose assortment is a Tee fitting, mine had a hole in it. Only smelled gas on occasion. Also, after I replaced my fuel pump and filter, a few heat cycles later, a clamp had loosened up. Bottom line, trace ALL the lines, clamps and verify they are in good condition. You won't be the first E30 owner to burn down their car with a fuel leak.
