    e30 m3 wipers don't stop wiping!!!

    hey everyone,

On my e30 1988 m3 the windshield wipers keep running even when the lever is in the off position....but then the lever will work and i can control the various speeds of the wipers as well as stop them from running....do you think its the relay for the wiper, the lever, or something else? i'm just gonna take out the fuse for now but i need to fix this asap.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Try replacing the relay with a good wiper-ing car, its the easiest part to get to anyway. In the schematic it shows it as solid state wiring, I haven't opened one up but its not just a relay, it controls the wiper start/stop delay and speeds for the wiper motor.

I have had this happen before. It the relay. The contacts had begab to wear out. I took the case appart and bent the aramture with a lil screw driver. But ya sounds like u need a new one.

The next time the wipers act up, pop the hood and jiggle the nest of brown(ground) wires that are laying around on the shelf just ahead of the washer reservoir.
If that makes them stop, then there is a short in that area.

Also seen the spare fuses drop out

I've also seen the spare fuses drop out from their holders inside the fuse box cover. I don't store spare fuses there anymore.

I'd rather have phantom wiping than no wiping :-(
