Coolant overflow hose

Does anyone know where the coolant overflow hose on the expansion tank routes to (and how long it needs to be, it came as a generic one meter length)?

From pictures, it clips into the hold down on the strut tower, but I'm unsure where it goes from there.

Also, I have some wiring that terminates to a white connector that runs along with the wiper fluid hose coming from the hood. I couldn't find anything in the etm. What does this do?

I have mine going through the big hole in the control arm, so it drips outside the car
Don't like it dripping on the frame etc
