    Rear Diff Noise

First post here guys, I have posted many times on s14 but as we know it's not available at the moment.

I bought an 88 E30 M3 out of state, got it home about a month ago. The Diff has a bearing noise, sounds like the Pinion Bearing.

Question to everyone is has anyone had their Diff rebuilt for this reason?

My local dealer wants $1400 to rebuild the Diff, several other Indi shops have turned me down, not willing to rebuilt.

    Thanks

most likely it's just the clutch pack going bad.
"grinding sound" when turning the car right?
    buy this

install it yourself and then get redline gear oil for an LSD.

    and then pocket the $1000
    Much wow

The sound is a Whining noise that gets louder as speed increases. No change when turning at all. A couple of shops verified the bad bearing using a stethoscope on the lift while running the car. I wish it was a simple fix.

Try using a thicker oil 75w-140. Won't hurt to try

Rear Diff Pinion Bearings replaced, noise problem solved :) This is the first car I have owned that has needed Diff work and it's a 70K original in perfect condition. I am still scratching my head over why the bearings went bad.
