M3 windows regs/lifters

I have an 86 m3 with the old style serpentine window regulator. Someone in the passed has taken the motors out and fitted manual winders. I would like to put the motors back in but they are very expensive. Has anyone tried to put the
newer window regs in where the serpentine were?

Doesnt look like they are interchangeable. One is moving threaded cable and the other is moving a toothed plate, so the drive teeth are not compatible. However, looks like the difference is only ~$80

It looks like you can only get the left motor. The motor and the reg are still available but there £700.

My car has the style they are converting to there. It looks like a much more solid setup Than the cable. I would recommend swapping
