honestly, if I was planning another 5-lug swap and it was going on my GFs car, this would be the way I'd go. Her e30 automatic and she doesn't drive fast, so this is what I would do...

but for my car that I know I throw in corners and enjoy having fun with, I wouldn't. If you are seriously considering them, take them to a machine shop that could balance them and then go for it. I'd be very careful, though.

yeah if you are planing on autox or track days with this car i don't think those conversion would be that strong to take that abuse.

seriously, seems like a heated debate between engineering and purist.

Not trying to flame here just wanted to see a few applied illustrations.

Car is a weekend car mostly for show. When I could afford the swap it would be nice down the road. The thread is very haunting although I remember these adapters from the 80s! Yes, I've been into e30 for that long. Surely if these things are dangerous, they would have been exposed given the length of time that the products have been out in the market.

Again, would like to see examples and even personal experience good or bad. The above ebay link is just an example, I am sure someone out there makes a conversion adpater for E34 wheels etc

Plus the bolt pattern is wrong unless you like subaru rims...

good find Javier, but when H&R offers a product, you can argue till your nose bleeds, they've surely done their research and have delivered a proper product, being a performance oriented company with global reputation... now H&R is not on ebay for $190, either.


They kit on ebay also fits Mustang wheels, which would be the quickest way to install 17x8 wheels that you could find for $100 or less (from some rednecks, with tires). Offset makes sense in this case, too. You'd just have to drive with horses on your car, and explain to people why you have such tiny-ass brakes and so much tire mounted and be unable to ever use it.



... but as I was saying, if youre going for looks and nothing else, this is the cheapest way to go. Personally, if I'm putting on big wheels, I want big brakes to fill the spokes.

The problem with these adapters are that they are so thick. At 44mm thick, you won't be able to fit many BMW rims under your fenders.

Yeah our cars like et20 stock, add 1.75" and you're stuck running high offset 6" wide wheels, holler!
