e30 upper strut mount for e36 strut?

I will be replacing my E36 front struts, would like to replace the upper strut mounts at the same time and happen to have a new set of E30 ones lying around. Can I use E30 units? I didn't build-up the 5-lug so not certain what mix of parts the PO used.

yes, use e30 strut mounts. You make have a slight problem fitting a socket in, but that's not a big deal

Indeed, E30 mounts are what you should be using anyway.

A little side note, most new aftermarket E30 strut mounts have a bigger opening for the socket than the originals. :)

Make sure you double check the strut mount bearings for grease before you install them. I'm not sure which brand but one of them ships out ungreased and will destroy it's self quickly.
