    e36 non m struts

With the exception of the sway bar link mounting point, are e36 and e36 m3 96+ front struts the same?

In the case of stock style struts, spring perches are different between the non-m and the m3 struts. Non-m e36 cars use a different larger diameter spring. So stock style springs aren't interchangeable between non-m and m3. There's even differences between 95 m3 springs and spindles vs. 96+ m3 spindles and springs. If you're doing coilovers, then it's kind of a wash because you're using different springs altogether.

Thank you. I have 96 m3 spindles and control arms. Instead of buying m3 struts, I would like to modify a 92 325i strut for coilovers.

If that's the case you should be fine. Really early e36's (up to through 5/92) have strut mounted sway bar attachments, so you may have lucked out. Otherwise all the struts themselves can be bolted/interchange between the different spindles. Seems like you've got it all squared away :)
