    16" BBS fitment

I have seen the thread where einstein57 had the original bolt holes welded and redrilled to 4x100. Following that line of thinking would it be "safe" to machine off 10+mm to up the offset so it would be within the limits of an e36 5-lug swapped e30? In short can you machine 12mm off the backside of the wheel center to take the wheel from et23 to et35? or would that severely weaken the wheel? I REALLY want to get these wheels on my car and I am trying to figure out a way to make it happen and still have the wheel be safe. I am not an engineer, I am an ER nurse so I do not pretend to knowledgable about metalurgy etc.... Thanks guys

    NO.

Lug nuts need material to hold, and if you machine those 10mm off, lug bolts will just slide through lug holes... Not a smart idea. If you have a way of welding solid entire thing and then machine/bore lug holes to factory specs, then maybe you'll be able to get away with it, if there's enough metal left....

Thats kind of what I was thinking, just wanted to get some other peoples .02. I guess I will just wait and see how einstein57 makes out as far as stress cracks etc. For his sake hopefully everything is cool

Kyle (Einstein) isn't shaving any material out for offset fitment. So in his case, there definitely enough metal left....

so hey, i was thinking the same thing as you were, but then i ended up buying a set of style 5's and just putting them on my car. and whadya know, they fit just fine. remember the difference between ET23 and ET35 is 12 millimeters. Not a whole lot.

If you are low to the ground, you will need to roll your fenders at least a bit.

you can see here that obviously i dont rub in the front. i was rubbing a little in the rear but my fenders aren't rolled flat, and i ended up raising my car about 1/2 an inch in the rear and now its fine. i am also running 225/40-16 tires, whose diameter is slightly smaller than the correct diameter.

your car sits really high though. What's your setup? Very sexy wheels choice, by the way...

the angle exaggerates it. doesn't look as bad from the side. and it does not sit really high in the rear.

My current springs I'm running are eibach pros I think....it's been 7 years since I did my susp.... lots of head trauma since then. From what I've read I can use those springs w/ the e36 stuff so that'll be my ride height. I'm quite excited to find a 5lug car and start ripping and tearing (carefully) and get the rims on. I need new brakes and rotors anyway so now'd be a good time to do it.

Which style 5 do you have? 7JX16 ET:20 which looks like yours...

... and 8JX16 ET:23 that look like Einsteins.

if yours are 8" wide, then it's definitely will be something I'm shooting for.
